Course Description: Perspective Drawing: Heads and Hands

This is a two semester -14 week course which includes a summary week at the end of the first semester and a wrap-up and review week for the entire course at the end of the second semester. I would say it will be intense if you want to receive the full benefit of the course.

This course is very intense and covers a very broad amount of material. You will learn the approach, the how's and don'ts, but more importantly, drawing is a very personal thing; an accumulation of information, experiences, education, all combined together with our unique personalities. This course will help you develop your own individual expression. Time needed for each lesson varies with the individual. This is a condensed and intense course so be prepared to put in at least 6-8 hours per week. The more you practice the better it is.

New lessons will be posted every other week allowing you extra time to complete your assignments and submit additional practice pieces for critiquing. No formal homework is assigned in this course, but to receive the full benefit of the course I highly recommend doing all the practice you can. There will be several practices with each lesson as well as the tutorial for credit.

If you are doing this course in a graphics program, you should know it well and be able to apply the techniques. This course does not not teach any program and I will not be able to help you with it.

Tools required for drawing: You should also be able to scan your work and post it to the forum.

* A lead holder
* A lead pointer
* HB pencil, 2H, HB, 2B and 6B, choose leads depending on your hand pressure, the paper, personal taste and budget.
* Kneaded rubber erasers also called clean erasers.
* White plastic eraser, in a click pen or the square one, or both if possible.
* Erasing shields, optional but not expensive so you could have many variable shapes.
* C-Thru ruler or any other transparent ruler. You can find them in a fabric store.
* A circle template
* Paper stump and tortillions for blending
* Paper - don't use the cheapest, your art may look bad even if you did everything right. Ask your art supplier for advice to help you choose your paper.(for drawing, plate or smooth-finish Bristol board.)
* Tracing paper may be handy, a cheap pad of tracing paper will do.
* A wooden Manikin ( optional, but very helpful)
